Activity Notes

It's not (technically) winter yet!

Join AYM for a late-season hike to Soda Peaks Lake via Trapper Creek Trail. We'll hike through old-grown forests, ascend to a ridge, possibly get views including Hood, Adams, and Helens if it's clear, before descending down to a beautiful subalpine lake. It's going to be COLD on Sunday so make sure to bring the right gear! 🥶

Seriously. Weather report currently puts temperatures right around freezing.

Bring a warm hat, gloves, and appropriate warm layers for hiking and resting at break points. We might get lucky with a clear day but let's not kid ourselves; this is Oregon: carrying FULL RAINGEAR will be required. That's a rain coat and rain (waterproof) pants.

Synthetic or wool clothing, something that will keep you warm even if it gets wet, is also required. No jeans! Cotton kills. We will need to turn away participants wearing jeans at the meeting point.

Wear boots or hiking shoes with good traction. If you have yaktrax or similar it wouldn't be a bad idea to pack them. Between precipitation leading into the weekend and the high point on the hike being 3,700 feet, we might see some snow.

To summarize:

  • Length: 10 miles
  • Difficulty: difficult
  • Elevation change: 3,000 feet
  • Highest point: 3,700 feet
  • Temperature: Crisp! Current reports say close to 32º F
  • Rain gear: Required-to-carry
  • Jeans: NO!

Driving distance: 1h10m, 60 miles one way. (2h20m, 120 miles total)

Meet at: Gateway Transit Center Park-n-Ride, NW corner

Meeting time: 8:00am

Northwest Forest Pass required at trailhead.

$2 Bridge Of The Gods fee plus reimburse carpool driver for gas.
