Activity Notes

Welcome to 2.5 days of camping, exploration and heaps of geological fun...and all in the giant caldera of an extinct volcano!! If you’ve been on any hike/climb with me before you know I LOVE geology and engaging others. So if you’re into getting your nerd AND your sweat on then THIS is the trip for you!

Leader: Lauren Sankovitch (see Leader Profile for contact info)

***Payment is required w/RSVP to reserve spot.***

Group size:  Leader plus up to 11 attendees.

There will be carpooling, leaving in the afternoon and/or evening of Friday, July 27th depending on schedules/number of cars.

Hikes likely to be offered:

Big Obsidian Flow Trail – ~1 mile, 200 feet elevation gain.

Paulina Creek Falls Trail – 5.1 miles, 600 feet elevation gain.

Paulina Peak Trail - 5.5 miles, 1600 feet elevation gain.

Crater Rim Trail – 19 miles total, we’ll most likely do a shorter section hike or two of varying elevation gains.

Lava Butte Trail and Lava Lands Visitors Center – 0.6 miles, negligible elevation gain.

Other hikes to be determined. Most likely we’ll look into Lost Lake Trail and head over to the Lava River Cave (2 mile out and back inside a lava tube) plus the visitors center.

Other activities will include Swimming! and Photography!
