This is a walk up peak with no technical mountaineering skills required other than routefinding and solid aerobic fitness. This can be a good ski mountaineering descent in early season.

Activity Notes

Climb the highest extant volcano in SW Oregon, ever since Mt Mazama blew her top 7,700 years ago. We can't yet know the conditions for the first weekend in summer, but we'll either be climbing on snow or amidst mosquitoes, so we'll be prepared for both. If the sky is clear, and I'm hopeful there won't yet be fires, we'll be able to see mountains in central Oregon and northern California. The stats are 9 miles and 3,900'.

I reserved Fish Lake campground (adjacent sites 8 and 11) for Friday and Saturday nights; that's a 7 mile drive from our trailhead. I'll seek $14.50 per climber via Venmo to pay for the camping. It's a five hour drive from the metro area, and the area campgrounds have a two-night minimum.

There will be a pre-climb meeting in camp at 19:00 on Friday. I plan to begin our climb at 06:00 Saturday.
