The West face Gully route is an alternate to the popular Avalanche Gulch south side route. It has fewer people and about the same moderate technical requirements.

Get an early start on this route to get firm snow conditions.

Activity Notes

This is an exploratory climb of Mount Shasta's West Face Gully route. I have been on a portion of this route.

The plan for the first day is to meet at Bunny Flat and climb to Hidden Valley at 9,200' to make camp. From there we will get an early start up the West Face Gully which will vary in steepness from 30-35 degrees up to 40-45 degrees. This route meets up with the standard Avalanche Gulch route at the false summit aptly named Misery Hill. Then on to the proper summit.
